Please read the article http://ce.nurse.com/ce146-60 and post your reply to get credit.

Do you have a better understanding about compartment syndrome after reading this article?

How has this changed the way you view your ortho patients?

This article was very informative. I did not know that a supracondylar fracture of the humerus is often the most common in upper extremity compartment syndromes. We see these types of fractures all the time on 4 E. Although, compartment syndrome is relatively uncommon, it is something we should be very mindful of when assessing our patients. I do think our ortho team is aware of this and often time bi-valves casts to assist with swelling and pressure.

Yes, I have a better understanding of compartment syndrome. I will make doubly sure to assess the 6 p's of compartment syndrome when doing neurovascular assessments.

I like this article and learned a little more about compartment syndrome. I'm aware of fasciotomy but havent heard of the Whitesides technique. I do think that we take our fractures lightly because we dont see too many compartment syndromes. Once we continue to incorporate the 6 p's into our assessments, we can eliminate under assessing our patients

it was a very good article on compartment syndrome. it is something I have seen first hand - an at the bedside double fasciotomy on an adult female involved in an MVA.

My daughte at the age of 32 had bilateral fasciotomies post trauma she had sustained while in highschool. Then as an adult played on a ladies basketball team - reinjuring her legs. The orthopeedists said it stemmed from chronic compartment syndrome. Her pressures were also in the 30"s

Very Happy This article helped understand compartment syndrome better and the need to assess for signs and symtoms to avoid permanent tissue damage.
