We are continuing with another evidence-based article this month.
After reading the article, how do you feel that we measure up in being pain advocates for our patients?

Did you learn anything new regarding pain management from this article?

Any suggestions on things we could do differently after reading this article?

Very Happy hi, I liked the article, it was very intersting and very in line with what we do on 4 east. Thanks for posting it, I didn't do the test, should I?

This article relates to the types of patients and families we see on this unit and it helps us better understand our chronic pain patients. I do think some of us tend to generalize the chronic pain patients instead of individualizing them and putting them on a case to case basis. I think we do need to advocate more for these patients and try to minimize misconceptions and judgements

I enjoyed reading the article. I think that we, as nurses on 4E, advocate for different populations depending on what specialty they are under. I know I personally advocate for the ortho patients that seem to have inaccurate pain med orders, but might not advocate as much for the patients that are believed to have "conversion disorder."

Something we could do differently is to try and not have the preconceived ideas about patients before seeing them and having them rate their pain. Or I'll try Smile

Hi, I do believe this article is very relevant to our work on 4E. I think it is particularly appropriate to our CRPS patients. They seem to be labeled more frequently related to their pain. This article is a good reminder to treat everyone's pain individually and without labels.

I do think we do a pretty good job of at least attempting to manage our kids' pain in conjunction with our wonderful pain team! I knew we used Neurontin a lot for neuropathic pain, but did not know the actual way the medication works by stopping the firing of nerves. I think we should just continue to listen to pain management especially with our chronic pain kids.

I think the nurses on 4E are very aggressive when it comes to handling patient's pain. The paragraph on Neuropathic pain was interesting and how anticonvulsants are used to decrease neuropathic pain.

I think nurses on 4E, advocate for different populations depending on what specialty they are under. With the constant changing environment and new residents we have to constantly pay attention to pain
